For this edition of the ForróFieira Festival Barcelona, Anax will provide us with its new project: AFRO INDIGENOUS / RÍTMICA CULTURE an unforgettable class that will make us see our dance in a different way.
Anax caracol is a nortista brasileiro, born in the heart of Brazil in the state of Tocantins. Between the amazon and the Northeast of the country.
His passion for dance was sparked from a very early age, inspired by his family who taught him the value and importance of the rich cultural heritage of the North and North-East of Brazil.
Anax’s interests grew once he moved to the cultural Coco town of Arcoverde in the back lands of the state of Pernambuco at the age 8 years old. From there, he explored and learned many types of popular dances such as Coco, Maracatu, Jongo, Samba de Roda, Brazilian contemporary, Orixas dances and of course Forró.
Anax has trained with folkloric dance master`s such as Antonio Nobrega, Lula Calixto, Omolu and others who inspired him in his life and career as a dancer. His experiences led to his participation in one of the top Afro companies in the country, the Bale Folclorico da Bahia and the well-known classic company of Carmen Serra in Spain.
Since moving to London in 2009, Anax became a key part of the Forró scene in the UK, teaching regular classes in London, Birmingham, Bristol and in different universities around UK. He also teaches and performs at numerous dance festivals around Europe and the all globe in such places as Canada, Japan and Russia.
Anax is a teacher and founder of Forro Brincado. A project that brings Brazilian popular culture from the northeast to the UK and all of Europe by dance classes and weekly and yearly events.
Anax's Forro style is an amalgamation of many forms of movement and expression, and is heavily influenced by Afro and Indigenous background, where use of hibs, body language and footwork is emphasized, making the dance more playful and fun.
Our next guest is one of the pioneers of the style called “Itaúnas” or “roots”.
He is an exceptional dancer!

Carlos Frevo, born Carlos da Silva, is a qualified dancer. Born in Pernambuco, Brazil he has been working as a dancer, dancing instructor and choreographer since 1996. Influenced by the diverse culture of Brazil, he possesses an extensive repertoire of traditional Brazilian dances: frevo, maracatu, coco, samba, afro-brazilian dance, forró and samba de gafieira.
He began his education in traditional dance at the age of 12 years in the “Tax Dance Company”, “Maje Mole”, “Darue Malungo” as well as “Cia Terapia Dança de Salão”. He also took classes with the great Frevo-master Meia Noite. In 2000 he began his education in modern dance in the “Company Experimental de Dança”.
Since 2004 Carlos Frevo is living and working in Berlin, Germany and is constantly developing his dance technique. As founder and artistic director, from 2012 to 2017 he gained a great international reputation with the “Tanzstudio Dança Frevo” and also made known the rich culture of Brazil beyond the borders of the country.
He is currently working as a dancer, dance teacher and musician with “Dança Frevo Cultural Events” and also regularly organizes Brazilian concerts and two dance festivals each year.
Cesar Neves started dancing because of a volunteering social initiative made by his teacher and partner Luis Henrique Resende.
In 2005, in addition to being a teacher, he was already partner of the Pé Descalço School. The development increased exponentially in 2009 when invitations to give workshops started coming from south eastern Brazil. In 2011 he went on his first European tour, passing through Germany, Portugal, Netherlands and France. In 2012 he won second place in the Brazilian Forró Cup and made a second tour abroad, this time not only in Europe but also to Asia, invited to teach workshops in Japan. In 2013 once again he is invited to tour in Europe, covering Germany, Russia and Portugal. This same year he taught in Forró in Rio, in Rio de Janeiro and organised the Minas Gerais stage of the Brazilian Forró Cup. In 2015 he is again invited to Japan and in 2016 to Germany, Russia, Portugal. From Portugal he went straight to Porto Alegre’s 4th Forró Encounter with Juzinha. This same year he organized with two other partners the BH Forró Festival, the first Forró dance festival in his home town.
In 2017 he takes on a new challenge and moves to London to start the first Pé Descalço in Europe. As the new founded school completes its first year he restarts to travel to a few cities in Europe giving workshops and taking part in Forró Festivals. In 2018 he starts training a new team of teachers for the PD London, envisioning to grow the school more and more.
Sofia Mora Ramos first started learning Forró in 2011, in her home town Lisbon, with Pablo Dias and Camila Alves. She was instantly hooked on this amazing dance that changed her life. In 2013, 2014 and 2015 she helped organise the Forró de Lisboa festival and became more and more involved with the forró community in Europe. In 2015 she spent 6 months in Brazil, doing almost daily classes in Belo Horizonte, mainly with Cesar Neves from Pé Descalço and Hugo Silva, and also a few classes with Guilherme Veras, both from BH too. She also took part in many workshops in numerous Forró Festivals in Europe and collaborated with the organisation of some of them, such as Forró de Domingo (Stuttgart, Germany), Forró de Colônia (Cologne, Germany) and Festival Pé na Terra (Fuseta, Portugal).
In 2017 she moved to London to open the first Pé Descalço school in a partnership with Cesar Neves, one of the owners of the Brazilian dance school. She kept studying forró, continuing to do lessons with both Cesar and Juliane Rosa, who also collaborated during the first year in the opening of the new school in London. In 2018 she became part of the teaching team of PD London, where both her and the rest of the team are having constant training in both dance and teaching with Cesar.
Dancer, teacher and choreographer of ballroom dancing, has as its main dance the Forró, a rhythm that has been investigating in the last 18 years. Since then, he has twice won the Brazilian Forró Championship, awards at national and international dance festivals, traveled to several countries in South America, Europe and Asia, has appeared in many television programs, dance congresses throughout Brazil and his last conquest was the best Professor of Forró of Brazil in 2015 and 2016 (Baila Mundo Trophy). His research in ballroom dance and the Brazilian people led him to develop a multicultural forró, without prejudice, because in his opinion Forró is one of the richest dances in terms of styles and different ways of dancing the same music.
Currently Fabio lives in Stuttgart – Germany, working with the groups Dança Bonito, Tübe Forró and Forró in Karlsruhe and teaching Forró around the world. In addition, he is creator of the Forró Immersion project, for who really wants to deepen within the beautiful universe that is Forró.
